A planned anchorage. What could be better than waking in the shadow of one of Cornwall’s more famous landmarks.
There is a marked anchorage to the west of the causeway to St Michael’s Mount. This causeway dries at low tide allowing vehicle access to the island. At high tide the causeway helps to protect the anchorage.
The area is popular with lobster fishermen and there is a marked restricted zone, but the anchorage is ample for a couple of yachts and the holding good on sand.
Benefits:
No charge
Great views and a nearly all-around protection (except from the West)
Short distance to both Newlyn and Penzance which can both take yachts and tender’s.
Penzance is literally ‘end of the line’ when it comes to trains but access is good and trains frequent and fast (well for Cornwall they are)
Negatives:
The swell from the South can be uncomfortable.
