Logbook – Viviero to A Coruna 18 Aug 19

Rested after a few days in Puerto de Viveiro we stored ship and secured for sea.  It’s amazing how quickly you move from a seagoing vessel to a more caravan mode of life.  So securing for sea took longer than expected but we slipped into calm seas with the engine on.  The wind was on the nose again and so we had some swell to confront. We used the main to get some lift and to help stabilise the roll against the swell and pressed on to round the most Northerly point of Spain.  I was keen to push past the cape to get ahead of strong winds expected in the next few days.

The coast continued to be impressive and still green despite a long hot summer. There are some very inviting coves and small rias on the coast. They look great to explore but being on a timeline we needed to press on to the next anchorage.

A Coruna offers a marina and natural harbour with several good anchorages.

We elected to anchor in Bajo Verde. This is to the East of the bay and protected well from the North.  It is very popular with day cruisers and can get busy but tends to empty just before dark. The holding is good in firm sand and there is good protection from the hills.  The swell is very subdued but does push the boats around so ensure there is plenty of room between boats.
