Ilfracombe – North Devon
Ilfracombe – North Devon
Position:
N51 12 7
W004 06 50
Perfectly placed outside a popular holiday town on the North Devon coast, Ilfracombe is a tidy little haven from Southerly wind in particular.
Anchoring in the outer harbour cost and you will need to be able to dry out, either standing free or alongside the harbour wall.
Outside of the harbour itself is a very atmospheric anchorage with high cliffs to the West and South, an open vista to the North and an imposing statue to the East, guarding the harbour entrance.
Avoid obstructing the RNLI mooring and take care to allow for the tides to swing you and still allow a safe depth.
Benefits:
No charge
Great views and a feeling of being protected by the high cliffs.
Easy access back to the channel
Easy access to the town with space for your tender
Negatives:
Can be very ‘lumpy’ and potentially dangerous on the rocky lee shore with a Northerly blow so move on if such winds are in the forecast.
