Logbook – Cabo da Gato – Carboneras – 5 Aug 24

A later start before motoring around the Cabo da Gato. This is a dramatic and impressive cape with possible small anchorage tucked in amounts the coves. We pressed on and then turn north, hugging the coast on motor with some life from the mainsail. We didn’t get the wind forecast so the day was spent on the engine.

As we headed North we passed to large breakwaters, handing if the weather turns bad. Both look well protected and the Southerly one actually has an anchorage marked.

I’d certainly consider using either in bad weather.

There are 2 anchrage spots at Carboneras. We used the one be the swim area, where the swell was noticeable. The other spot is in the lee of a small island but this also seemed to suffer from a mixed swell plus the disturbance of boats using the shortcut between island and mainland.

Still it was a pretty anchorage and another night on the hook.
