Logbook – Saint Evette to Port Tudy, Ile de Groix 3 Aug 19

A quiet night at anchor brought a lovely morning with some wind to make our way further South.  The plan was to depart after collecting our croissants and bread promised the night before and make good Ile de Groix and Port Tudy.

The croissants and bread never arrived.  Probably not enough trade in the bay to make the trip worthwhile and so it was anchor up and on our way.

The sailing was very pleasant and Ile de Groix was imposing and very attractive from a distance. It was once a ‘Tuna Port’ but has given way with the times to tourism and so was a popular spot for weekend sailors.

As we arrived, the popularity was evident as we rafted up on a buoy with 5 other boats.  I would appear that Port Tudy had moved from Tuna to Sardines!

The town was very busy already and so there seemed little point in going ashore. The wait for food would be large and so we decided to eat aboard and then make it an early night ready for a push the following morning.

I played guitar in the cockpit while ‘meerkating’ other skippers arrive.  I could bask in the glory of having got there earlier and without incident, allowing me to watch others arrive late.  Ah the luxury of a visible wince and the sucking of air through your teeth at another close miss.

We were also treated to a masterful display of parking as the local ferry skipper navigated a 3 point turn in a large ferry without hitting any of the myriad yachts and obstacles in his way.  Clearly a massively experienced skipper.

Despite the congestion, the night was quiet and calm. Port Tudy and Ile de Groix looked like a beautiful place to explore…perhaps another day as the weather and timeline was driving us South.
