Logbook – Lagos to Ferragudo 16 Jun 20

After a great birthday meal in Alvor for Pat Curry we rose early to prepare for sea. This was our last morning in Lagos and so we needed to sort a few last items out. A quick shop for fresh milk, water and chocolate. Then a cooked breakfast at Derry’s Marina Bar and then a fond farewell to a few of our friends on the pontoons.

We slipped just before lunch to pay our bill and top up with fuel before a gentle 20 hour sail Under Genoa to Ferragudo near Portimao. The Anchorage was full and as our first 2 attempts left us dragging we decided that the anchorage further up river was a better bet.

After we anchored in a small pool near the upper limits of the anchorage we chilled and ate before settling in to a quiet night. The Nortado can drive through the anchorage that are based in a river but this time it wasn’t too bad.

The next morning we caught up on some admin around the boat and in the evening we had plans for a beach party with SV Quintessence and SC Lysander, our friends from Lagos marina.

Despite a strong wind we decided to use the inflatable canoe. This proved a good initial idea and we shot down to the beach for beers and a fire, chatting about the next day’s plans.

The trip back was against the wind, which had been forecast to drop. Naturally it hadn’t and so it was like canoe challenge to get back to Eclipse.

A long dark cold paddle back left us ready for hot chocolate, a deck shower and bed. The night was a little lumpy and noisy but ok until about 4 when the fishermen decided to race to sea and set up bow waves that rocked us awake.
