The Mumbles – Swansea Bay

Mumbles – Swansea Bay

Position:

This is a very underused anchorage in my experience as many folk continue on to the Swansea marina.  I have been a regular visitor here and used to hide from strong Northerly and South Westerly winds.

As you will find anywhere in the Bristol Channel, the tidal range is quite large so expect some movement and regular anchor alarms if you set the range circle less than 30 meters. The holding is very good however with a mix sand and mud…not that smelly Falmouth  mud but good clean wholesome Welsh mud.

Anchor well clear of the lifeboat station and ensure you have a good anchor light to contract against the coastal back lights.

Benefits:

No charge

Good views

Easy access back to the channel

Negatives:

Can be ‘lumpy’ with and Easterly blow
